Overview of Radiculopathy (Pinched Nerve)
Radiculopathy is commonly known as a pinched nerve, occurs when a nerve root in the spine is compressed, irritated or inflamed. This can cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness along the nerve’s path. It’s most common in the cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower back) spine regions. Many people experience pain in areas like the neck, shoulder, arm or leg depending on the affected nerve. Early diagnosis and personalised treatment are crucial to prevent long-term nerve damage and improve quality of life.
Types of Radiculopathy (Pinched Nerve)
1. Cervical Radiculopathy: Nerve compression in the neck region, often causing pain that radiates to the shoulder, arm or hand.
2. Thoracic Radiculopathy: A rarer form affecting the upper back and chest.
3. Lumbar Radiculopathy (Sciatica): Affects nerves in the lower back, radiating pain into the hips, legs or feet.
4. Multilevel Radiculopathy: Involves more than one nerve root at different spinal levels.
