Ulnar Neuropathy

Overview 

Ulnar Neuropathy is a condition caused by damage or compression of the ulnar nerve, which runs from the neck down to the hand. This nerve is responsible for sensation in the ring and little fingers and helps control hand movements.

Ulnar neuropathy commonly occurs at the elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) or wrist (Guyon’s canal syndrome). It can lead to numbness, weakness, and difficulty in hand coordination. Early diagnosis and treatment help prevent permanent nerve damage.

Types of Ulnar Neuropathy

• Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: Compression at the elbow (most common)
• Guyon’s Canal Syndrome: Compression at the wrist
• Acute Ulnar Neuropathy: Sudden onset due to injury
• Chronic Ulnar Neuropathy: Long-term nerve compression

Symptoms of Ulnar Neuropathy

• Numbness or tingling in ring and little fingers
• Weak grip strength
• Hand weakness or clumsiness
• Pain at the elbow or wrist
• Difficulty performing fine motor tasks
• Muscle wasting in severe cases

Causes of Ulnar Neuropathy

• Prolonged pressure on the elbow
• Repetitive movements
• Injury or trauma
• Bone deformities or arthritis
• Nerve compression due to swelling
• Poor posture
