Overview of Laryngitis

Laryngitis is an inflammation of the larynx (voice box), usually resulting in hoarseness or a complete loss of voice. This condition can be acute, often due to a temporary infection, or chronic, which may result from persistent irritation. It primarily affects the vocal cords, interfering with normal voice production.

Types of Laryngitis

1. Acute Laryngitis: Usually caused by a viral infection, and lasts less than 3 weeks.

2. Chronic Laryngitis: Lasts more than 3 weeks, often due to irritants like smoke or acid reflux.

3. Infectious Laryngitis: Caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi.

4. Non-infectious Laryngitis: Triggered by overuse of voice, allergies, or exposure to irritants.
