Overview 

Mucormycosis, also known as zygomycosis, is a rare but serious fungal infection caused by molds belonging to the Mucorales group. It commonly affects individuals with weakened immune systems.

The infection can involve the sinuses, brain, lungs, or skin and can progress rapidly if not treated early. Prompt diagnosis and aggressive treatment are critical to improving survival.
