Overview 

Uveitis is an inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye that includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. It can affect one or both eyes and may lead to serious vision problems if not treated promptly.

Uveitis can occur suddenly and progress rapidly. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to prevent complications and preserve vision.

Types of Uveitis

• Anterior Uveitis: Affects the front of the eye (most common)
• Intermediate Uveitis: Involves the vitreous (middle part of the eye)
• Posterior Uveitis: Affects the retina and choroid
• Panuveitis: Involves all layers of the uvea

Symptoms of Uveitis

• Eye redness
• Eye pain
• Blurred vision
• Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
• Floaters (spots in vision)
• Decreased vision

Causes of Uveitis

• Autoimmune diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis)
• Infections (viral, bacterial, fungal)
• Eye injuries or trauma
• Inflammatory disorders
• Unknown causes in many cases

Complications of Uveitis

• Glaucoma (increased eye pressure)
• Cataracts
• Retinal damage

• Recurrence of inflammation
