Ulcer (Peptic, Gastric, Duodenal) Disease refers to open sores that develop on the inner lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. These ulcers occur when the protective lining of the digestive tract is damaged, allowing stomach acid to irritate the tissue.
Peptic ulcers include both gastric ulcers (in the stomach) and duodenal ulcers (in the small intestine). If left untreated, ulcers can lead to serious complications, but with proper diagnosis and treatment, they are highly manageable.
